I actually live not far from here. If you have to stop around vidor and are heading east, at least try to make it to Sulphur. It’s right across the Texas border and is much safer. If you can make it to lake charles, that’s even better. Do not stop in Vinton, Louisiana at night. The town is hidden and hard to find off the interstate and as a poc even driving through the town once bc I got lost made me hella uneasy. And if you can help it, try to have no interaction with cops around here. Stopping for gas and food is fine, but do NOT speed and don’t do anything you can get in trouble for, especially if you have a Texas plate because that’s what cops look for. Sulphur cops are awful (as in left me on the side of the road at 11 at night after I was in a wreck and made jokes) and lake Charles cops aren’t much better (I’ve had one cop harass me because I didn’t know my ssn off the top of my head and he wanted it because of a ticket. What. And a cop accused a friend of mine of stealing a car so he handcuffed him in his own driveway.) Cops will not bother you here unless you give them a reason. Don’t.
